$5.3m to improve trade waste systems in SA

SA Environment Minister Ian Hunter
South Australia Environment Minister Ian Hunter has announced a $5.29 million scheme to help the state’s industry improve resource management in its trade waste systems.

The Trade Waste Transition Initiative aims to help SA firms to become more efficient and reduce costs through funding to help identify and improve resource management. The money will contribute assessments to identify how to better use waste and other resources.

“Some of South Australia’s best known companies will be assisted to reduce their costs through productivity improvements, through assistance from the Office of Green Industries SA in collaboration with SA Water,” said Mr Hunter.

“The assessment will cover energy, materials, water consumption, waste and processes efficiency, and subsidies up to 50 per cent will be available for eligible businesses.”

Food SA CEO Catherine Sayer said the program will benefit the local food industry.

“Trade waste is a significant issue for the South Australian food industry, and this new targeted programme will substantially help our industry to reduce costs in their businesses,” she said.

Mr Hunter the Trade Waste Transition Initiative is expected to pass up to $20 million in savings direct to SA Water customers over the next 20 years, who will see wastewater prices kept down.
