Southern Oil Wins Big At Queensland Awards

Southern Oil CEO Tim Rose collects award from Dr Steven Miles and Karen Fitzgibbon
Southern Oil was among the 11 category winners at the 2015 Queensland Premier’s Sustainability Awards last week.

The finalists and winners were celebrated on Thursday night (5 November) at a presentation dinner at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Southern Oil won the Innovation in Sustainable Technologies Award for the Northern Oil Refinery at Yarwun, near Gladstone. The $65 million site opened in March 2014 as the first facility in Queensland to recycle waste lubricant oil back into base lubricating oil for reuse.

The plant can handle 100 million litres of waste oil a year, meaning all of Queensland’s annual waste lubricating oil production can be processed through it, underwriting a new industry and local jobs.

Southern Oil’s CEO, Tim Rose, collected the award from Dr Steven Miles, the Minister for Environment and Heritage Protection, and Karen Fitzgibbon, General Manager Membership and Alliances, Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland (CCiQ).

Full details on the award winners and finalists is available on the awards web page.
