Waste Firm Fined For Unauthorised Asbestos Storage

Skips for taking away waste from buildings
A commercial waste operator has been fined over $11,000 for unlawfully storing asbestos at its site near Brisbane.

Queensland’s Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (DEHP) issued a Penalty Infringement Notice of $11,385 to the firm, who had a large quantity of asbestos on its premises at Haigslea.

Operators must hold an Environmental Authority (EA) to receive particular types or amounts of regulated waste. The company involved did not hold the relevant EA to store asbestos material.

The DEHP has ordered the firm site to clean up the site, to remove all the asbestos material and disposed of it at a licensed facility.
