$2 million in State Government funding is available for councils for new local recycling projects.
The Victorian Minister for Environment Ingrid Stitt announced the opening of the third round of the Circular Economy Councils Fund on 22 February 2023, to assist increased recycling capacity for councils and to divert tonnes of waste from landfill.
“These projects will mean more materials are being reused, repurposed and recycled, which brings us closer to reaching our target of diverting 80 per cent of waste from landfill by 2030,” Stitt said.
So far, more than 50 projects across the state have been supported by $3.8 million in circular economy funding. These projects are estimated to have prevented more than 55,000 tonnes of waste going to landfill and created 60 jobs.
Overall, the government has invested $515 million towards the states waste and recycling systems, including a state-wide four-stream household waste and recycling system and a Victorian container deposit scheme.
Victorian councils and Alpine resorts can apply for grants to develop projects.
