Businesses and events along Perth’s Swan Canning Riverpark can apply for a $400,000 boost to replace single-use items with reusable alternatives in Western Australia.
This boost is part of a wider funding program from the State Government, which has supported 62 businesses and 27 events by providing more than $180,000 in grants to phase out single-use plastics, packaging and serveware. More than three million single-use items have been eliminated through this initiative.
Grants from $1000 to $10,000 are available to businesses, events and organisations supplying food or beverages within two kilometres of the Riverpark, and to riverfront local governments and event organisers operating community events within one kilometre of the Riverpark.
Successful applicants for this funding will lead the way in protecting Perth’s rivers by driving behaviour change, educating the community and actively reducing waste that could become litter.
“This round is a fantastic opportunity for local governments, businesses and event organisers to lead by example and show the community what reuse can look like,” said WA Environment Minister Matthew Swinbourn.
“We’re looking for initiatives that take practical, measurable steps – such as offering reusable serveware, promoting BYO options, and coordinating litter clean-ups.
“Together, we can transform the way we celebrate and connect, ensuring our rivers remain healthy and vibrant for generations to come.”
Applications close on 30 April 2026. Funding will be allocated to successful projects on a first-come, first-served basis.
