Annual plastics conference goes virtual

The Annual Plastics and Waste Conference, organised by the Australia-New Zealand Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers, will be run as a series of webinars under the title of Plastics and the Circular Economy – The Virtual Edition.

The conference will have four separate sessions during the week from Monday, 15 November to Friday, 19 November 2021 and feature more than 20 presentations.

The first session on 15 November will feature seven speakers mainly from Europe, including an update by Garance Boullenger from the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the latest news on plastics recycling technology from Nextek by Professor Edward Kosior.

The 16 November morning session will start live with a keynote address by Brooke Donnelly, Chief Executive of APCO, and will include a presentation by Ricki Hersburgh, Executive Director of Plastic Oceans Australasia.

Trevor Evans, Assistant Minister for Waste Reduction and Environmental Management will update the audience on plans by the Federal Government, via video.

On 17 November, seven speakers and will focus on advances in the recycling of plastics and investments by the recycling industry in Australia. This session will include Jenny Brown from Envorinex and Rowan Williams from the Australasian Bioplastics Association, as well as Bill Verhagen from Green Angel on The Circular Economy and Education.

The 19 November session will feature at least four speakers from the USA including Steve Alexander, the Chief Executive of the Association of Plastics Recyclers, and Dr Jason Lyons the Global President of the Society of Plastics Engineers.
