Australian company Autonomous Fire Systems has developed a fully autonomous system to protect waste management hubs from costly fires.
The FlameSmart System offers 24/7 protection, combining state-of-the-art thermal cameras and high-capacity water cannons, all coordinated by the company’s proven AI Firefighter Brain known as Pulse AI.
Equipped with cutting-edge Flir A50 thermal cameras and water cannons from United States manufacturer Elkhart Brass, FlameSmart can detect fires rapidly – often before flames are even visible.
Pulse AI instantly notifies authorities, calculates the exact target point, and directs a water jet of up to 2800 litres per minute, to a maximum distance of 65 metres.
“This allows the system to act exactly like a highly trained firefighter, on duty 24/7, tackling fires at first ignition, before they escalate into disasters. Even if communications are down, FlameSmart will continue to suppress fires, making it 100 per cent independent and reliable,” said Nick Boyd of Autonomous Fire Systems.

FlameSmart also runs regular self-diagnostics, flagging any issues that require attention.
“The system is particularly relevant in the waste and resource recovery industry, where volatile and powerful fuel sources such as lithium-ion batteries have caused so many fires over the years that insurance premiums have skyrocketed,” Boyd said.
“It’s a serious problem across the whole industry, and FlameSmart is uniquely positioned to mitigate those risks, ensuring lower premiums and stronger business continuity.”
FlameSmart is already live at a waste transfer station in Victoria, following ten months of extensive live-fire trials.
“Now that we’ve proven and optimised the technology at scale in a working industrial site, we’re ready to take orders and roll out these systems,” Boyd said.
The company is taking limited orders now. Find out more and book a demonstration at www.autonomousfiresystems.com.au
