Babcock & Wilcox EfW expert to speak at conference

Ole Hedgaard Madsen, Babcock & Wilcox Technical Director, will be the in-person keynote speaker on day two of the Waste Management and Resource Recovery national Energy-from-Waste EfW conference in Melbourne next week.

Madsen, CTO, has more than 25 years’ experience in the waste to energy sector, working as a senior manager for Babcock & Wilcox Vølund.

Formerly, he worked seven years in the Danish natural gas sector for Ørsted as Manager for the combustion department. He started his career as a research assistant and project manager at the Technical University of Denmark, including a science exchange program at Sandia National Laboratories, California, USA.

Today, in Babcock & Wilcox Renewables he is responsible for WtE power plant design and process optimisation, technical proposals concept development for new WtE plants, engineering for WtE systems and technology management and R&D for WtE systems.

He has a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering (Energy and Combustion) from the Technical University of Denmark and has been studying Management & Organization, Business Marketing English at Copenhagen Business School.

During the years, he has presented more than 50 publications and conference articles and is a member of The International Solid Waste Association (ISWAA), Working Group on Energy Recovery (WGER), the Danish Society of Engineers; Fuel and Power Engineering Society and is a member of the board in DI Bioenergy in the Confederation of Danish Industry, DI.

The WMRR 2022 Energy from Waste Conference is in Melbourne from 16-17 March.

The theme for the conference (postponed to March 2022) is “The role of EfW in delivering a net zero future”. It aims to bring industry experts to the table to uncover pathways that will lead Australia to a low-carbon future. It will also focus on the regulatory landscape, planning and development, stakeholder engagement, and technology and innovation.
