bettercup will return to the Australian Open

Ahead of the Australian Open 2025 season, Sustainability Victoria and Tennis Australia have partnered to replace single-use cups with sturdy, durable cups made by Victorian company bettercup.

Bettercup is one of Australia’s most trusted reusable cup and reuse system supplier for major events and venues.

There will be no extra cost or deposit for the cup, once the patron has finished the drink, they should deposit the cup to the marked collection points around the Courtside Bar and bars around Garden Square.

The team from Green My Plate- suppliers of reusable plates, bowls, cups, mugs, and staff to events, schools and venues- will wash them on site and return them to the bars to be used repeatedly.

Sustainability Victoria said this initiative is expected to avoid more than 50,000 single-use cups going to landfill during the three weeks of the Australian Open.

In 2023 it was estimated that each patron produced 750 grams of waste each but 300 tonnes was recycled.

The cups will also have the potential to be used beyond the tournament for other Victorian events.
