Visy is calling for small businesses, community organisations, charities, sports clubs, and councils to register their interest in becoming collection point operators for Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).
VicReturn will run the Victorian scheme, set to start from 1 November 2023.
The scheme will reward Victorians with a 10-cent refund for every eligible can, carton and bottle they return. The goal is to help create less waste and a better recycling system.
Empty drink containers will be able to be returned to refund collection point across Victoria or over-the-counter collection points, reverse vending machines and depots.
By becoming a registered collection point, the scheme assists groups to generate revenue to raise funds for their activities, initiatives, and projects.
Announcing the Victorian scheme in April, Environment Minister Ingrid Stitt said it would be one of the biggest and most accessible container deposit schemes in the country with 600 collection sites across the state.
Visy will be supported by Envirobank, an Australian-owned and recognised indigenous business, and will run the collection and refund points across the Loddon, Mallee and Hume regions, as well as the inner north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Visy is currently planning the locations for collection sites to maximise accessibility and convenience for participants.
