Charitable Recycling Australia launches ‘Charity Shop?’ pop up

Charitable Recycling Australia

Six of Australia’s well-known charity retailers are collaborating under Charitable Recycling Australia to launch a new Charity Shop? pop-up concept in Melbourne’s south-east.

Charity Shop? will trade for five weeks from 1 May 2023 to demonstrate the positives of charity retailing. The aim of the pop-up is to appeal to mainstream consumers who don’t usually shop second hand and highlight environmental impact.

Designed for socially and environmentally conscious generations, the shop has an environmental target to save 47,000 tonnes of carbon emissions through the reuse of clothing during the five weeks.

It will be stocked with 4100 items of pre-loved fashion from Salvos, Vinnies, Red Cross, Brotherhood of St Laurence, Uniting and Save the Children, plus pre-consumer clothing from ThreeByOne denim and Jaggad high performance activewear.

Everyone involved in Charity Shop? is participating probono. The net proceeds of the shop’s trading are expected to go towards the charitable reuse sector’s environmental and social causes, contributing to both climate change impact and the transition to a circular economy.

Charitable Recycling Australia states that Charity Shop? is an Australian-first innovation to showcase the environmental credentials of charity retail with a stylish and engaging customer experience, so shoppers can feel good by doing good.

The pop-up charity retail store will open on Thursday 4 May from 4pm to 7pm at Westfield Fountain Gate, Narre Warren.
