Clean Up Australia and Cleanaway recently joined forces with local council members in Western Sydney to host a Business Clean Up Event, tackling litter along the area’s Whalan Reserve.
The event, hosted on 24 February, came following Clean Up Australia’s FY25 Litter Report, which revealed various statistics on the state of litter in the country.
The Business Clean Up Day encouraged workplaces to play an active role in protecting Whalan Reserve and the rest of their local environment.
Clean Up Australia Chair Pip Kiernan expressed pride in the event showcasing the organisation’s longstanding relationship with Cleanaway.
“Our 10-year partnership with Cleanaway is a testament to what can be achieved when organisations commit to environmental action,” said Kiernan.
“Business Clean Up Day allows workplaces to take an active role in cleaning up their local communities and inspiring their teams to become champions for change.”
Close to 100 Cleanaway team members and local council representatives participated in the event, demonstrating a commitment to corporate environmental responsibility.
Blacktown City Council Mayor Brad Bunting called Whalan Reserve an important green space for the community and expressed his gratitude for the event.
“Keeping Blacktown City clean is a shared responsibility,” he said, “and that work continues year-round through the efforts of our Greenspace staff and community partners.
“We thank Cleanaway, Clean Up Australia and the volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to take practical action for our local environment.”
The initiative also served as a reminder to the broader community to register for Clean Up Australia Day, which will take place on 1 March.
