Cleanaway VIC landfill extension application ticks on

EPA Victoria has formally requested further information from Cleanaway on a works approval application to extend its Melbourne Regional Landfill at Ravenhall.

Cleanaway is looking for approval for an extension to the existing landfill to continue receiving the same waste types, including the disposal of municipal solid waste, low-level ‘Category C’ contaminated soil and solid inert waste within part of the quarry void resulting from future Boral quarrying operations.

EPA VIC issued the waste management company, trading as Landfill Operations Pty Ltd, with a notice to expand on details provided in its application document.

The formal request was made on 7 September following the agency’s initial review of Cleanaway’s application.

It is looking for expanded details about existing groundwater conditions, side wall landfill cell designs and the topographic profile of the site after waste had settled, which EPA VIC said it requires to inform its final determination of Cleanaway’s works approval application.

“The information requested will enable EPA to continue its assessment of Cleanaway’s works approval application,” said EPA VIC Development Assessments Manager Tim Faragher. “EPA has identified the extra requirement following a preliminary appraisal of the application undertaken by EPA officers.”

EPA Victoria has a section on its website dedicated to Cleanaway’s application for the Ravenhall Landfill expansion.
