Waste firm ups efficiency with Hiab hooklift

Corio Waste Management Hiab hooklift on its Scania
A Victoria-based waste management specialist has increased it productivity by investing in an advanced hooklift that can handle larger-sized bins.

Geelong-headquartered Corio Waste Management has taken delivery of a XR26Z.60U V20 Power Hooklift from Hiab Australia, which is fitted to a Scania truck.

The company says the new model can accommodate up to a 31m³ hooklift bin, but can also carry more than 30 tonnes of product per run, helping its drivers to deliver an extra two loads per day.

“The hooklift works twice as fast as our older units, which boosts productivity,” said Peter Wilkes, Asset & Technology Innovation Manager at Corio Waste Management.

“It gives us plenty of flexibility on the roads and means that we don’t need additional trailers to carry more bins. Instead, this can carry larger bins, helping us to reduce the number of vehicles on the road while carrying more weight.”

According to Corio Waste Management, the bins will be used to carry organics from customer sites to its compost recycling plant in Shepparton.

“On the safety front, a two-speed, in-cab second generation hand controller, controlling the extra safety locks incorporated in this hooklift, which the driver can use while sitting in the truck and all of this is made easy with sequence control, and built-in diagnostics through the PLC (Programmable Logic Control) system.”
