EPA swoops on hazardous waste in Sunshine North

Victoria’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has acted quickly to remove potentially hazardous and industrial waste from a premises in Sunshine North.

The area has been secured, and containers will be removed from the Sunshine North site to ensure the safety of the local community.

EPA officers, working closely with Fire Rescue Victoria, Victoria Police, WorkSafe, and the Brimbank City Council, determined that containers left at the premises included dangerous industrial waste and potentially combustible material that would require removal and processing at a licensed facility.

The site manager has secured the area and is working to comply with the EPA’s directions.

Steve Lansdell, EPA West Metro Regional Manager, said quick action was taken to mitigate risk to the local community.

“All agencies worked extremely well together and are very focussed on this critical work, preventing risks to our environment and local community,” he said.

The EPA is investigating how the waste came to be left at the site.
