The Federal Government has announced changes to the Australian Renewable Energy Agency’s (ARENA) legislation, to support the growth of environmentally friendly technologies.
The legislation changes will help to support a new generation of energy technologies, aiming to support research and development in renewable energy, as well as net zero technologies.
The legislation will be broadened to increase ARENA’s ability to deliver targets outlined in the 2020-21 budget, including the Future Fuels Fund and Industrial Energy Transformation Studies Program.
Last year the Federal Government announced a funding package of $1.62 billion for ARENA, including guaranteed funding of $1.43 billion over the next ten years.
ARENA CEO Darren Miller welcomed the funding, saying the changes will help to support the development of environmentally friendly technologies.
“This allows ARENA to continue to be the Agency that works at the forefront of innovation,” Miller said.
“As technologies such as solar and wind mature, we must be able to move forward and support the next generation of clean energy technologies.”
ARENA was established to help improve the competitiveness of the renewable energy technologies, as well as supporting over 586 projects.
“We’re encouraged by the support the Australian Government has placed in ARENA to be a key delivery vehicle for the Technology Investment Roadmap,” Miller said.
