VIC GOV seeking feedback for single-use plastic ban

national plastics plan

The Victorian Government is seeking feedback on the proposed draft regulations banning single-use plastic items in the state, from 1 February 2023.

Single-use plastic straws, plates, cutlery, drink-stirrers, expanded polystyrene food and drink containers, and cotton bud sticks will be banned from sale and supply.

Industry and the public are being encouraged to have their say on the draft Environment Protection Amendment (Banning Single-Use Plastic Items) Regulations 2022 and the Regulatory Impact Statement that outlines the Victorian Government’s approach to banning these single-use plastic items.

The Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) assesses the costs and benefits of the proposed ban and tests different options of how the ban could be implemented.

Feedback will inform the final regulations to ban certain single-use plastic items in Victoria, and how the Victorian Government supports businesses and the community to prepare for this change ahead of 1 February 2023.

An information session on the draft Regulations and RIS will be held on Friday 29th April 10-11am 2022. A summary of findings through the consultation process will be published on Engage Victoria in mid-late 2022.
