Recycling businesses can now apply for a grant between $250,000 and $1 million to increase Victoria’s capacity to tackle hard-to-recycle plastics, including e-waste and soft plastics.
Sustainability Victoria has announced the Victorian Circular Economy Recycling Modernisation Fund (Round 5), jointly funded by the Victorian and Commonwealth governments, to deliver new infrastructure and technology for the recycling industry.
The funding will enable more hard-to-recycle plastics to be processed locally – and at higher quality – for remanufacturing and making new products. This will build the capacity, capability and resilience of Victoria’s resource recovery sector, delivering economic development opportunities and more jobs in the circular economy.
Matt Genever, Sustainability Victoria’s Chief Executive Officer, said the fund will support businesses to build the recycling infrastructure required to help keep tricky plastics out of landfill – including plastics from electronic devices and the soft plastics Victorians use every day.
“By investing in new or improved recycling and manufacturing solutions, we can increase the circularity of materials and further develop a thriving circular economy here in Victoria,” Genever said.
Projects will be co-funded through the Victorian Government’s circular economy policy, Recycling Victoria: a new economy. Those projects addressing materials impacted by the national regulation of waste exports are additionally co-funded by the Australian Government’s Recycling Modernisation Fund.
Information about the grants is available through Sustainability Victoria. Find out how to apply at sustainability.vic.gov.au/grants. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 pm Monday, 12 May 2025.
