As part of National Recycling Week, the Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA) is inviting public, private, and community stakeholders on a unique behind-the-scenes tour of Victoria’s waste, recycling, and circular economy infrastructure.
The guided tour on Wednesday 12 November will take participants across key sites in South East Melbourne, highlighting organics recovery, materials processing, recycled content manufacturing, and cutting-edge technology in municipal fleet vehicles.
The tour will include stops at Valoriza Organics, Cleanaway, APR Plastics, Ego Pharmaceuticals, Alex Fraser, and Bucher Municipal, with expert commentary provided throughout the day.
“We see this kind of tour as a foundational experience – something anyone working in or connected to the waste and recycling sector should complete at least once,” said Mark Smith, Executive Officer of VWMA.
“There’s no better way to understand how the system works than seeing it in action, asking questions, and connecting the dots between what’s in our bins and how it’s managed.”
The VWMA believes that strengthening awareness of the sector, particularly among public servants, university students and young industry professionals, as well as community leaders, is critical to delivering on Victoria’s waste and circular economy goals.
“As the sector grows in complexity and more people become aware of the connection between waste, infrastructure, and population growth, we expect to see greater interest in how it all fits together. That’s why these tours are so important,” said Smith.
With a focus on education and engagement, VWMA’s industry site tours are open to elected officials and decision-makers, TAFE and university students, journalists and media commentators, state and local government officers, private sector suppliers and contractors and community advocates and local leaders.
The November 12 tour includes catering, safety gear, and all transport.
Registrations are open now via Upcoming Events – VWMA.
“Whether you’re a new policy officer, an elected councillor, or someone curious about the circular economy – this tour offers invaluable perspective including understand how critical we are to society,” said Smith. “It’s about building understanding, trust, and ultimately better outcomes for Victoria.”
