Features, Waste Management In Action

More out of Morbark with new horizontal grinder

Morbark’s latest horizontal grinder machine has debuted in the US at the Expo Richmond trade show with new features and upgrades.

Manufacturer of forestry, biomass and wood recycling equipment – Morbark – has debuted its 6400XT Wood Hog Horizontal Grinder.

Lincom Group, an equipment distributor for Morbark, recently released the horizontal grinder to the Australian market.

Mark Malone, National Sales Manager for Lincom Group, says the 6400XT can help extend landfill operating life by grinding the green waste.

“Green waste is a significant portion of solid waste disposed of by Australian households. Diverting this material from the solid waste stream keeps methane-producing materials from Australia’s landfills as well as extending their operating life,” Mark says.

Mark says the green waste can be resized and transformed into a garden mulch. This can be used to conserve water, keep soil moist and help prevent weeds, or by further processing it into a soil conditioner and compost to reintroduce nutrients into the soil.

Michael Stanton, Morbark Director of Industrial Sales, says Morbark listened to its customers when developing both the machines.

“For both of these high-production machines, we focused on improving the experience for the customer with features that increase performance and production and make routine checks and maintenance easier.”

He says the model 6400XT Wood Hog Horizontal Grinder includes many feature improvements to last year’s 3400XT.

“Industry demands for high-production mobile units that meet stringent logistic restrictions but remain economically viable were the leading drivers during the design phase,” Michael says.

The Wood Hog weighs less than 43,772 kilograms and is 3.49 metres wide, allowing it to be transported in a vast amount of domestic and international markets.

The Infeed bed is 60.96 centimetres longer than previous Morbark grinders in the 1000-plus horsepower range and has sloped sides, which improves operator sight lines for more efficient loading of material. It also comes with a removable infeed chain return floor, which minimises wear on the floor.

“When we introduced the 3400XT last year, our customers responded very favourably. It had a major impact on the market, and we expect the 6400XT to be just as well received,” he says.

It also features an extended platform between the hood and engine to make changing grates easier and provide access to the diesel engine. It is equipped with a fixed work platform for better safety and access during maintenance.

Morbark’s driveline protection system comes standard on all wood hog models, with an externally adjustable, breakaway torque limiter to help protect the machine from catastrophic damage caused by contaminants.
