Residents from Murray River Council are set to receive a food organics garden organics waste collection service (FOGO) from mid-2022.

The council received funding under the New South Wales EPA Waste Less Recycle More program.

The $321,914 grant will enable residents to have a green bin service introduced to collection services from mid-2022.

Green bin services will also be extended to operate in Moama and Mathoura, which will include both food and garden organic waste collection.

Mayor Chris Bilkey said that the collection service will be a welcome addition to the existing collection services.

“It is exciting that we can now start planning the implementation of this initiative thanks to the EPA funding,” Bilkey said.

“The 3-bin FOGO system will provide residents with more options for separating their waste, with the aim of improving recovery rates, increasing diversion from landfill and reducing costs of processing material.”

FOGO collection will begin across the entire council area on the 1st of July 2022, with no extra changes to current collection schedules at this time.
