Nominations have opened for the 2025 Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Sustainability Awards.
The awards recognise the practical efforts made by businesses from any industry or community sector who have developed and implemented cleaner production initiatives, delivering measurable improvements in waste minimisation, reuse and recycling, energy and water conservation and resource efficiency.
The two awards are part of the Tasmanian Community Achievement Awards (TCAA) run by Awards Australia.
Catherine Murdoch, Chief Executive Officer, Environment Protection Authority, said having awards recognising sustainability across both the industry and community sectors demonstrates the importance of sustainability within Tasmania.
“The awards are open to Tasmanian businesses, groups and organisations. Submissions can be for a project or initiative that has resulted in measurable improvements and results in wider community or flow-on sector benefits,” she said.
“We want to encourage anyone who knows of a business or has an organisation in their community doing great things for sustainability to reach out and encourage them to nominate, or refer them directly to the TCAA.”
Lenah Game Meats Pty Ltd and Sustainable Living Tasmania were the 2024 winners in the Industry and Community categories respectively.
Katrina and John Kelly from Lenah Game Meats said that participating in the awards was validating for their business.
“It gave us the opportunity to assess our environmental strengths and weaknesses, sharpening our sustainability focus,” Kelly said.
Nominations are open until Wednesday 16 July 2025, and the winners will be announced at a gala presentation in October.
