NSW Energy from Waste policy statement
The NSW EPA’s consultation on a revised Energy from Waste policy statement is due this week.
It is of significant concern to WCRA Members that there is no clarification of the application or otherwise of the NSW waste levy to incoming waste streams.
In speaking about the draft consultation paper on the policy, WCRA Executive Director Tony Khoury said “while it is expected that such streams would be made exempt (possibly by individual application), the draft Guidelines do not clearly confirm this position.
“The value of the waste levy (currently $146 per tonne) is a critical matter for the commercial viability of such facilities. WCRA is in the process of preparing our submission.”
