Recently launched regulatory agency Recycling Victoria has appointed Tony Circelli as its new head.
Circelli will join the Victorian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) from his current position as Chief Executive of the South Australian Environment Protection Authority (EPA).
In his more than eight years with the South Australian EPA, Circelli led regulatory reforms for that state’s resource recovery sector, including its Container Deposit Scheme (CDS).
Circelli will now lead Recycling Victoria in its work to strengthen Victoria’s waste and recycling sector, drive innovation and industry security, and support the introduction of the new CDS.
Recycling Victoria will also monitor and enforce the transition to a state-wide four-bin household waste and recycling system.
“I will be leaving the EPA enormously proud of what we have achieved for the community and the environment, and knowing we hold an envied national leadership reputation,” Circelli said.
“Driving a more sustainable economy has long been a passion of mine and this new role is an exciting opportunity to drive new statutory, strategic planning and regulatory work in what will be a major transformation for Victoria.”
Circelli takes over from Philip D’Adamo, who Recycling Victoria thanked for his work as Interim Head. Keith Baldry, EPA Director Science and Systems, will take over as Acting Chief Executive of the South Australian EPA.
