Australian e-waste processor, Sircel, has launched Australia’s first dedicated Printed Circuit Board (PCB) resource recovery line using Sircel’s proprietary green technology, SircelARRC.
PBCs are found in almost every modern device, such as computers, smartphones, TVs, LED lighting, medical equipment and even aerospace technology.
Despite their small size, they contain a high concentration of critical minerals including precious metals.
By processing PCBs onshore, the materials can be safely and efficiently recovered, reduce reliance on virgin mining, cut emissions from overseas freight, and keep critical resources in circulation.
The new PCB line will deliver market-leading extraction of precious metals through specialised equipment designed for PCB recovery.
Sircel said faster processing times and reduced costs compared with overseas alternatives will also be achieved, as well as lower regulatory risk, with full compliance with Basel Convention obligations that are tightening restrictions on hazardous e-waste exports.
It will also offer teal-time commodity pricing linked to the London Metal Exchange for transparent and fair returns.
Research shows almost half of Australians want to see less e-waste being sent overseas, while nearly three-quarters prefer their e-waste to be recycled domestically.
Anthony Karam, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Sircel, said the investment in the PCB recovery line represents a huge step forward for Australian industry.
“By recovering high-value metals and materials domestically, we can provide a faster, cleaner and more economical solution for local manufacturers and retailers,” said Karam.
“Importantly, we’re also creating a new pathway for businesses currently aggregating or sourcing PCBs and selling them overseas, giving them a stronger local option while strengthening Australia’s position in the circular economy.
“SircelARRC is modern sustainability in action, delivering safer, cleaner and scalable solutions to keep valuable materials in circulation, reduce emissions from transport, and create long-term local partnerships.”
