Speakers inspire at women leaders event

Speakers at the WMAA Women in the Environment Leadership Lunch, Melbourne
Emphasising the importance and value women provide throughout industry was the focus of WMAA’s recent Women in the Environment Leadership Lunch.

More than 60 women and men from the waste, recycling and environmental sectors attended the event on 29 February at The Langham in Melbourne.

This included extended time for networking, lunch, and insightful, thought-provoking presentations from three women outside the sector with ideas for the attendees to take away.

Author of Step Up – How to build your influence at work, and the founder and Director of consultancy Change Meridian, Michelle Gibbings shared details of the journey of her career, which has evolved into a helping people, teams and organisations thrive in complex environments.

Senior Adviser Trade and International Affairs at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Dr Imogen Reid, spoke out the importance of resilience, not wasting opportunities and mentors to the development of her career.

Last up was Jessica Watson, who became the youngest person to sail around the world solo and unassisted in 2010. She shared her story of the path to setting out on that journey, and the different people and experiences who supported her towards her goal.

WMAA is planning another Women in the Environment Leadership Lunch for the Sydney region in September. Details will be posted on the WMAA website.
