A Victorian council is introducing tighter controls, stronger deterrents and tougher enforcement measures to put a stop to rubbish dumping.
Over the coming months City of Brimbank Council, in Melbourne’s west, will deliver an action plan to tackle the issue and help clean up the suburb.
Council will also run community-wide information and education programs, to make it easier for everyone to dispose of waste responsibly and to report illegal dumping.
Brimbank Mayor Cr Thuy Dang said rubbish dumping is a growing problem in the city and putting a stop to it is an urgent priority for council.
“It’s illegal, it’s ugly, it’s hurting our environment – and it costs council and ratepayers to clean it up,” Dang said.
“We know our community is frustrated and wants to see more done to keep Brimbank clean and beautiful. Keeping our streets clean is a whole of community effort, and we are grateful to everyone who does the right thing and disposes of waste responsibly.
Illegally dumped rubbish can be reported using the Report It tool on the council’s website vic.gov.au/report-it
