Victoria’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA) will provide a readily available, online course, for small to medium sized businesses to educate themselves on their own environmental risk management responsibilities.

The short videos will offer a simple introduction to how businesses can follow a risk management process, which will save on costs and protect the environment.

The videos will also explain how to identify waste related hazards, educate how to assess risks, teach how to implement controls to risks and how to check these controls.

EPA Director Jo Missen said the videos will help to support businesses to be self-aware in their operations.

“Each of the four videos is around two minutes long.  They show you a four-step process to manage any potential risks your business activities may pose to the environment and human health,” Missen said

“The steps are simple and can put you on the road to applying them to a business of any size or developing your own risk management approach if that’s better for your business.”

The videos will also explain the new Environment Protection Act 2017 which came into effect 1 July 2021.

Under the General Environmental Duty (GED) included in the new laws, businesses must understand the risks from their own activities and how to address them as far as reasonably practicable.

The videos will run less than eight minutes in total and can be viewed one at a time.
