The Victorian Waste Management Association (VWMA) is hosting a webinar to provide an overview on initiatives underway to tackle battery fires in the waste and recycling industry.
The free webinar, from 9am to 11am on Friday 8 November, will focus on fires in transit and include government updates, VWMA project updates, protocols for notifying Fire Rescue Victoria and other agencies and detox updates.
Mark Smith, VWMA Executive Officer, said the webinar would provide important information for local councils and any transport, waste and resource recovery operators.
It follows a successful webinar in May that attracted a national audience.
“There are many of us playing an active role in safety and with the rapid increase in fires we believe that tackling these industry-wide challenges requires a unified approach across the entire supply chain,” Smith said.
“One way we can achieve this is through broad, sector-wide communication and engagement. The event in May was targeted toward Victorian stakeholders but we had attendance from across the sector nationally. This upcoming event will no doubt also have a significant audience and learnings that can be applied nationally.”
