Waste Expo Australia, one of the largest gathering of waste recovery professionals in the country, is set to take place on 25-26 October at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.

This highly anticipated event provides a platform for industry experts to share knowledge and discuss the latest advancements in waste management and sustainability.

Waste Expo Australia is pleased to announce the latest session added to its conference program presented by Brendan Lee, the Circular Economy Manager at Closed Loop; Compostable packaging: A genuine solution or an easy out?

In this session, Brendan aims to shed light on the complexities surrounding compostable packaging. While it is often hailed as a more sustainable alternative in the wake of single-use packaging bans, there are critical aspects that often go unnoticed.

Attendees will gain insights into several important questions. Why do most industrial composters not accept compostable packaging? What led the New South Wales Environment Protection Authority to ban compostable packaging in FOGO (Food Organics, Garden Organics) collections? In the absence of FOGO bins, where should compostable packaging be disposed of? How does compostable packaging behave in landfills?

By addressing these elephants in the room, participants are urged to delve beneath the surface and explore the full picture before embracing solutions that may seem appealing at first glance.
