Why should you nominate for the 2024 Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards?

Every project that encourages better recycling practices in community has a positive impact on the environment.

It’s one of the core reasons why global packaging and resource recovery leader Visy has signed on again as proud sponsor of the Community Engagement Success of the Year Award at the 2024 Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards.

The Community Engagement Success of the Year Award is presented to a council that has rolled out programs or initiatives that engage the community and resulted in positive outcomes for the industry such as improved waste management and resource recovery practices.

“At Visy, we believe councils play a key role in educating communities to understand what can and can’t go in their household bins,” says Wayne Russell, Executive General Manager Recycling.

“When households correctly sort the items going into their household bins, we can remanufacture more of it into new products. It also reduces the amount of material sent to landfill, which has a positive impact on our environment.

“We work closely with our councils to support this and by sponsoring this award, we can celebrate the fantastic work being done.”

The Waste Innovation and Recycling Awards recognise and celebrate achievements and excellence in the industry. They also highlight best practice, encourage collaboration and showcase the progress the industry is making towards a circular economy.

This year, Wayne is keen to see projects that seek to educate community in interesting and innovative ways, and projects that tackle big issues being faced in the waste and recycling industry such as batteries in household bins.
